P221109_15.00There’s no “I” in TEAM only MATE(s). – Warminster Scout complete November Expedition
Twelve youngsters from the Warminster Scout Troop, completed a weekend expedition in the local area over the weekend of the 21st/22nd November, braving the inclimant weather conditions and all that nature could throw at them. The weekends activities was planned by the youngster towards their Expedition Challenge, which was to complete a two day Journey with a purpose, of experiancing differing terrain and conditions, with an overnight camp on route.
The weekend started at 09.30 hours with a drop off at Kingston Deverill Church for a 7.2 mile hike through the Deverill valley following the course of the river Wylye, back to their HQ in Weymouth Street. The group split into two patrols accompanied by leaders, to conduct the navigation back to Warminster, using permitted paths and bridleways.

The patrols arrived safely, if not wet, at the Scout HQ mid afternoon for extra activities laid on by the leadership team. The afternoons activities were followed by the youngster preparing their own tea/supper and then further entertainment followed by lights out in the late evening.
Sunday morning was an early start for most, with morning chores and execise, followed by a mean cooked breakfast (again prepared by the youngsters), before setting off for the second leg to Westbury White Horse via Battlesbury Hill, along the Imber Range Perimeter Path.

Again mother nature attempted to ruin the day, but the youngsters heart and minds were strong and committed to the task in hand. The route had a last minute change, due to a barn fire to the east of Battlesbury, but the youngster succesfully navigated an alternative course through the east of Warminster to arrive on the Imber Range Path, for the trek to the White Horse.
After negotiating the east side of Arn Down, again proving that waterproofs do help you stay dry, the patrols made their way to the valley beyond Upton Scudamore for lunch, before pressing on for Westbury White Horse for mid afternoon.

Well done to all those who took part completing the total 17 miles hike and sleep over, in particular a big scouting Bravo to all the Leaders, helpers and parents whom helped out over the weekend, transporting, marshalling and supporting the event.

And a special well done to two of the Scouts whom, in taking part in this weekends activities, completed their Chief Scout Gold Award, the highest achieveable award within this Scouting section.

Below is a picture of the youngster and leadership enjoying the beautiful November weather and the wonderful wiltshire countryside.
